Employee Workplace and Personal Safety
The Company upholds disaster prevention and mitigation as its core principles, utilizing appropriate management tools and available resources to address occupational safety and health issues within the facilities, propose effective countermeasures, and continuously foster a culture of occupational safety with the ultimate goal of zero accidents. The Company has obtained ISO 45001/CNS 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System certification, valid from March 7, 2025, to March 6, 2028. In addition, the Company regularly conducts employee safety and health training, organizes fire drills, implements occupational hazard control assessments, and provides adequate protective equipment to safeguard employee health and safety. In 2024, no fire incidents occurred within the Company.
To fully implement the safety and health policy, the Company has established a systematic management framework (ISO 45001 and CNS 45001), adhering to the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) management cycle. Safety and health concepts are integrated into research and development, product manufacturing and services, and raw material usage. Through organizational meetings, training programs, and employee participation, the Company actively promotes various management initiatives and continuously improves, demonstrating its strong commitment to safety and health protection.
- Each plant has dedicated occupational safety and health (OSH) units and personnel responsible for formulating OSH management plans, promoting workplace hazard identification, risk assessment, and control, implementing machinery and equipment inspections, pre-operation safety checks, and environmental monitoring. Continuous improvements to safety and health facilities are carried out to create a safe, healthy, comfortable, and friendly working environment.
- Each plant holds quarterly OSH committee meetings to review and improve safety and health-related issues, and preventive measures are implemented according to operational risks, including machinery and equipment management, contractor management, chemical safety management, personal protective equipment requirements, and safety audits. Regular emergency response drills are also conducted to minimize employee and company asset losses, as well as social and environmental impacts resulting from potential disasters.
- In compliance with regulations, the Company engages occupational medicine specialists and employs dedicated nursing staff to provide onsite health services. These include health education, promotion and guidance, prevention of work-related injuries and illnesses, health consultations, first aid, and emergency response. The Company also organizes health promotion activities such as healthy eating, stress relief, traditional Chinese medicine wellness, and walking programs to meet employees’ health needs. Furthermore, regular health examinations and special occupational health checks are provided for employees of different age groups to effectively evaluate and track their health conditions.
- Workplace environment monitoring is conducted semiannually, covering physical and chemical factors defined by regulations, such as lighting, carbon dioxide concentration, noise levels, and concentrations of regulated hazardous chemicals. When abnormal results are detected, OSH personnel evaluate and implement corrective measures to reduce exposure risks to acceptable levels and protect employee health.
- In addition to workplace and occupational health measures, ergonomic improvements have also been implemented, including providing simple forklifts, vacuum suction tools, hydraulic carts, and trolleys. Workload allocation and training on proper lifting postures are also promoted to reduce ergonomic risks.
- Implementation in 2024 was as follows:
(1) The President and senior management led safety culture initiatives, encouraging supervisors to work with employees in identifying hazards. A total of 565 safety and health-related activities (e.g., NG behavior drills, hazard identification, etc.) were held, helping employees understand how to avoid unsafe behaviors during operations.
(2) In 2024, there were 31 occupational accidents involving 31 injured employees (accounting for 0.66% of the total workforce at year-end), of which only one case resulted in disability. The disabling injury frequency rate (F.R.) decreased by 52% compared to 2023. The Company continues to promote a culture of safety and strengthen proactive safety measures to achieve annual accident reduction targets.
(3) HIWIN develops an annual Occupational safety and health (OSH) training plan to enhance employee knowledge. In 2024, a total of 15 internal safety courses were conducted with 8,356 participants, while 17 certification courses were offered with 434 employees successfully completing training and obtaining certifications.
(4) Dedicated occupational health nurses and contracted occupational physicians were employed to provide regular onsite consultations, medical services, health counseling, emergency care, and follow-up on abnormal health examination results. In 2024, a total of 4,787 employee visits were recorded.
(5) Health examination services were provided to employees to identify potential health risks and diseases at an early stage. The Company also promoted chronic disease prevention and cancer screening activities. Based on health check results, data analysis and tracking were conducted, supplemented by pre- and post-test questionnaires to identify individual health issues and provide personalized guidance. In 2024, 43.3% of employees with metabolic syndrome showed improvement after receiving guidance.
To promote public health, the Company actively supports the prevention of obesity and chronic diseases such as hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia in the workplace, providing health education to ensure that employees enjoy a safe, healthy, and high-quality life.
(1) Employees with three or more abnormal conditions (e.g., obesity, high blood pressure, high fasting blood sugar, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol) are placed under health management.
(2) Employees with hypertension, diabetes, or overwork risks are also monitored.
In 2024, the Company managed the health of 231 employees with metabolic syndrome, of which 100 employees improved (improvement rate of 43.3%). Additionally, 633 employees participated in cardiovascular disease prevention programs. A total of 448 employees identified with health risks achieved a 100% management rate. Moreover, 746 eligible employees participated in surveys, and pre- and post-assessments indicated that employees are becoming more aware of their health and actively adopting healthier lifestyles.
